Realtors question own group on cost of issue ads
Monday, January 1st, 2007The mission statement of the Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance declares it “won’t engage in partisan elections.” But some of the biggest names in Madison real estate are complaining that the nonprofit group, made up of real estate agents and owners, did just that by using their dues money to pay for so-called “issue ads” during the recent election. Moreover, they say, leaders of the group won’t say how much they spent.
In a Dec. 15 letter to Bill Malkasian, president of the Wisconsin Realtors Association, which created the alliance last year, more than a dozen agents and owners have asked that the group disclose how much money it spent during the latest election campaign and on which races.
