CORALVILLE - Realtors say the housing bubble from a few years ago has not necessarily burst in eastern Iowa. It has deflated a little, but there are still bountiful buyers on the market. To sell your home, simply make it stand out.

Sara Rogers is packing up the knickknacks that make her house feel like home. She knows what she likes is not necessarily what someone else likes. And she wants that someone else to buy her house. Rogers said, “We wanted to put our house on the market and get top dollar for it.”

Realtor Jodie Fredericks will tell you the only aspect of selling a home you can control is the presentation. She said, “Make it look comfortable, warm and inviting.”

Fredericks says houses are selling in Coralville. Businessweek.com ranked the town one of America’s 25 most affordable suburbs. Coralville has a low median price cost and a cost of living index below average. There are so many available. Fredericks says there are 206 available properties in Coralville. So for Rogers to sell her home, she has to work. Fredericks said, “Staged homes get listed and sold at the higher end of the price range for those homes.”

That means Rogers needs to get rid of the 180 gallon fish tank and sell the entertainment center. She was amazed to see how rarely people actually take these steps. Rogers said, “After looking at so many houses that haven’t had that done, I realize the importance of it.”

Fredericks says with 206 properties for sale in Coralville alone, clearing away and cleaning up your house will make it stand out from the rest.
