The Face Of Business: Jane Eurek
Author: Skia
Category: REI Interviews
Jane Eurek of Belvidere is a Realtor with Dickerson & Nieman Realtors
in Belvidere. She attended the National Association of Realtors Convention in New Orleans. Former Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush spoke at a general assembly. Agents attended break-outs and educational seminars. Agents from around the country helped rebuild the city by volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, a local library and other causes.
What do you do?
For 20 years, I’ve facilitated the home buying and selling process.
What message did you get from the presidents?
They told stories from the past and shared jokes and camaraderie. It was very relaxed.
What did you most enjoy about the convention?
It’s a great place to meet agents. It takes one out of one’s own little corner of the world. The people of New Orleans were grateful for our being there. About 38,000 Realtors registered for the convention. On Saturday, many of them wore matching T-shirts and participated in a parade on Bourbon Street. We were told that that was the biggest parade turnout since the hurricane.
What’s new at Dickerson & Nieman?
In February, we have our annual awards banquet. Last year, our company hit just over a half-billion dollars in commercial and residential real estate sales.
Who could do your job?
A college degree isn’t required but is always helpful. Attitude is huge. Almost all Realtors are independent contractors. You get out of it what you put in. Clients have to trust you to do your best and be available at all times. It helps to have a large network of people who want to call YOU.
What does a Realtor make?
A real estate agent is paid a percentage of a home’s sale price. The more homes one sells, the more one makes. A very busy, successful Realtor can make more than $100,000 a year. Many agents make much less than that, though.
How could someone learn more?
Most Realtors love to talk about their careers, but the best way to learn more would be to call someone who teaches licensing. Our office has an instructor on staff.
Other than this job, what was your favorite job? Why?
I loved working in a local pharmacy when I was younger. I worked with good people. I got
attached to regular customers
What do you like best about your career?
I really like the people. When someone is buying or selling a home, there are many variables. I’m happy to be able to help clients through the process. They seem so
appreciative and all the while, it’s been MY pleasure.
You would never find me leaving this job to do … Taxes. I’m thankful there are people who can figure mine out. Sitting at a desk all day looking at all those figures and paperwork would be awful for me.
The ideal workday?
Getting final signatures on a contract, then coordinating the closing process with the buyer, seller, cooperating agent, attorneys and title companies. Trying toget everyone’s schedules together is like conducting an or-chestra. We all need to be insync for it to go
smoothly.
A business needed in the region?
Dave & Buster’s.
The best way to unwind after work … I’ll finish reading the morning paper. Then I like to sift through the mail at the kitchen table. I love my home, so it’s soothing just to tinker.
