John’s got a lot of company. Kitchen & Bath Business Magazine forecasts
that there will be 6 million kitchens remodeled this year at a total
cost of $79 billion!

It isn’t surprising. Kitchen remodeling projects generally recover
nearly all of their costs when you sell your home. MSN House & Home
released a report showing that projects costing up to $25,000 returned 90% or
so when the home was sold.

LOS ANGELES-The 1000 Wilshire Building has reached full occupancy with
the signing of two new leases totaling more than 38,000 sf at the
492,000-sf Downtown Los Angeles office tower, according to Jones Lang
LaSalle. The tenants who signed the new leases are global insurance firm C.V.
Starr & Co. and CH2M Hill, an environmental engineering firm.
C.V. Starr has signed a 19,204-sf foot lease to occupy the top full
floor of the 22-story building and is targeted to move into the space in
May in a 10-year deal, according to Jones Lang LaSalle managing director
John McAniff and leasing director Tim Miller, who represented building
owner Beacon Capital Partners on the two transactions. CH2M Hill has
taken the entire 21st floor of 19,204 sf, having relocated from City
National Plaza in a five-year transaction valued at $2.9 million.

The Sanford Health project is going to open a lot of new doors in the
medical field, but Sioux Falls realtors see it as a window of
opportunity for their own careers.

It’s been the cold reality of home sales across the country. New
listings on the market for more than a year with no buyers. But Sioux Falls
realtors think “for sale” signs, will soon read, sale pending.

“Our market share will actually go up as far as people out there
looking for homes,” said Clark Kelly, a realtor for Dunham Company.

Existing-home sales in the Toronto, Canada, market broke records in January, with some districts showing 50 percent gains from a year ago, the Toronto Real Estate Board reported today.

There were 5,173 sales of existing single-family homes last month, up 13 percent from 4,587 sales a year earlier. Last month’s sales activity was 6 percent above the previous January record set in 2002, according to TREB.

“Sales have been very solid to start the year,” TREB President Dorothy Mason said in a statement. “It’s a very good sign for the market to see a healthy level of activity carrying over from last year’s strong finish.”
